Auto-adaptive synchronous motor

CTI project in collaboration with a Swiss industrial partner

Project description

In motor industry, customers often require motors with high torque-speed characteristics but have limited space to integrate it. In order to modify this characteristic, several methods exist but the most used one is winding reconfiguration. Until now winding reconfiguration could be made offline by changing manually the winding connection or online using electronics and switches. Among the issues, using electronics require a certain volume space and can be difficult to control. With the aim of having a high speed with a high starting torque motor, this project focuses on studying winding reconfiguration, minimizing and integrating the electronic controls in the motor using MEMs technology and adding features such as sensors in order to obtain smart motors.
